So you may be trying us out for the first time, and have no idea what to expect. When you come to see us, we will be looking at a number of things. Traditionally dentistry will look for holes or broken teeth. We will first and foremost, figure out what are your motivating factors – whether it’s to get yourself out of pain, keep your teeth healthy so you can keep them for life, improve your appearance, or improve the quality of your life by optimizing oral function, because we will treat you to the level you want to be treated.
If you are experiencing pain, we will absolutely focus on getting you comfortable.
If you are coming for a new patient “checkup”, we will first conduct a soft tissue exam and look for signs of oral cancer. We will check out your jaw/neck muscles and joints and see if they are functioning happily, free of head and neck pain. We will look at your gums and how well (or how poor) your home care is, and give you an actual toothbrushing demonstration on how to eliminate the presence of disease causing bacteria. We will look at your teeth for wear, cracks, and holes with a combination of photography and x-rays. All of these things listed impact on your teeth and overall health, which is why it is important that they are looked at.
We will share our findings with you, and give you the options on how to treat those options so long as you want to hear them. Dental disease is completely treatable and preventable, and we will take the time to educate you on how things can be taken care of.
